Kerry Reid - Yoga Teacher: Enmore Yoga Association, accredited with Satyananda Yoga®, from Sydney, Australia
Kerry is a yoga teacher, accredited with Satyananda Yoga®, who lives and teaches in the inner west of Sydney, through Enmore Yoga Association. The word yoga means unity or oneness, and Kerry has a passion for assisting people to achieve harmony of body, mind and spirit through yogic postures, breathing techniques, meditation and deep relaxation.
In 1983 Kerry started practising yoga and soon became aware of its huge potential. He has great regard for the value of education, and along with high school teaching, began teaching yoga classes in 1992, completing Satyananda Yoga teacher training five years later. Kerry also holds a Masters degree in Education and is a past president of the Satyananda Yoga Teachers’ Association (SYTA).
Kerry first visited India in 1982 and was smitten by its grace and wonder. He has returned there many times, particularly to South India, where he had the pleasure to meet both Bede Griffiths and Meath Conlan. Kerry regularly attends temple festivals in Tamil Nadu, particularly in Chidambaram and Tiruvannamalai. In Sydney, he studies the philosophy of Vedanta, exploring the oneness of creation through the revelation of the ancient Vedic texts of India.
* Satyananda Yoga® is the integrated system of yoga practices developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati at the Bihar School of Yoga in India.
Benefits of Yoga:
* Increased awareness of the inter-relationship between body, mind and spirit.
* Encourages flexibility, strength and good posture.
* Invigorates the functions of the body, including the circulation, digestion, nervous and immune systems.
* Aids in the relief of stress, tension and anxiety by creating harmony and well-being.
* By steadying the emotions and calming the mind, the practice of yoga can bring a sense of perspective and freedom to life leading us towards peace and inner strength.
Yoga Practices and Classes:
* Yoga postures (asanas) work on the physical body, stretching, toning and relaxing muscles, strengthening joints, massaging internal organs and balancing the nervous system.
* Breathing practices (pranayama) use the conscious control of the breath to stimulate and balance the energy levels and steady the emotions.
* Meditation focuses the awareness within, creating stillness in the deeper levels of the self.
* Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of deep relaxation, inducing physical, mental and emotional peace.
“I am amazed by the efficacy of yoga practices in producing a profound experience of relaxation. Many of us mistake distraction for relaxation; watching TV, shopping, and having a few drinks to unwind are all considered to have therapeutic value. Yet true relaxation is only achieved through physical and mental calm, and yoga provides us with a systematic structure with which to do this. I teach simple and proven practices which work on the body, breath and mind, to produce a sense of tranquility and wholeness.” Sarita – Satyananda Yoga Teacher
