Former Olympic-standard professional free-style skier, Ramsey teaches youth with learning differences in Colorado. He is committed to employing and promoting innovative approaches to educating children who might otherwise be left behind. Ramsey authored his book, “Globalistic: Writings From a Millennial Classroom” in 2009, in which he relates life stories of 13 teens who were told they weren’t smart enough.
Ramsey was introduced to skiing at the age of two. He hasn’t stopped since. A former skiing professional, Ramsey developed significant skills as a mountaineer, sporting all-rounder and outdoorsman.
Having joined the teaching profession, he enjoys national recognition as a creative and compassionate teacher of youth with learning differences. He brings his gentle, kind and highly motivated personality with him on our journeys to the Himalayas and Nepal.
Mr Brookhart is honored to be a 2010 recipient of the Teachers of the Future Award through the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Ramsey was chosen out of hundreds of nominees from private schools around the United States.
Recipients of the TOF Award – About the Award
The Teachers of the Future exemplify excellence in independent school teaching. They should be individuals who inspire academic excellence in students in the classroom and who serve as opinion-leaders among their colleagues and peers. To align with NAIS’s vision for sustainable schools, we are looking in particular for nominees who have demonstrated excellence in environmentalism, globalism, equity and justice, and/or use of technology. These teachers of the future may show excellence in teaching students to be good stewards of the environment; and/or they may embrace a wide view of education that prepares students to succeed in a globally interconnected future; and/or they may have successfully created inclusive environments inside and outside of the classroom; and/or they may have modeled best practices in the use of technology.
This program provides teachers a way to distinguish themselves as leaders. They can advance independent school education by spurring discussion and idea-sharing about innovation in teaching and learning.
